Videos!

Hello there!

I just wanted to show you a couple of videos I found on the internet...here's the first one called The Test of a Civilization...

And another one - This one states about Mars (the chocolate company) using Animal Testing - I'm just as shocked as you are! Here's a link to the 'homepage' of being against Mars, and here's the link to what kind of experiments they carry out...

And here's a video I found on Animal Testing Breaks Hearts:

So now I'm sure you know why our group chose Animal Testing; it's cruel, inhumane, unnecessary and it's inaccurate.

And that's all for now! I'll keep on updating you with other videos, articles and pictures in the near future...Bye! Thank you for watching!

Explanation for Kids.

Hello! If you're someone who'd like to explain what Animal Testing is to little ones, I found a link that does the job! It states a simple explanation of what animal testing is, and gives straightforward reasons of why some people are for it, and why some people are against it.  :)

2004/2005 Undercover Video

Looking through videos of the cruelty of Animal Testing, I found a video that my and my group watched when we first started this Citizenship Activity, at the end of 2009; the video that made us even more determined to help stop Animal Testing. I just thought I'd share it with you here:

I really hope this was an eye opener for you.  :)

Readers Opinions!

Hello Readers!

I was just thinking about how different people have different opinions on Animal Testing, and I though I'd like to hear more opinions on it so I could learn more about this issue my self. I though that maybe our readers could tell us their point of view on Animal Testing? How do you feel about it? Do you think it's beneficial for the society? Do you want it banned or continued?

Post us your answers by commenting on this post, or by using the ShotBox on the sidebar. Your names are not required, but there's no harm in inserting it!

We are also open to and suggestions of any reading materials, websites and any thing Animal Testing related. I would also like to thank Anonymous on the suggestion of the book The Animal Research War for more information on this issue. We are planning to get it soon, hopefully.  :)

Thank you to all for your support! We really appreciate it!

Animal Testing Justified.

Here's a link I found about how Animal Testing can be justified - Just scroll down till you see the headline 'Can animal testing be justified?'. You can read the rest if you want, but it's mainly this part that I'm focusing in this post.  :)

Great News!

I found this article which is dated just yesterday...and the content is highly gratifying! Read it for yourself!

Frankly, it's saying that the UK government is saying that they want to reduce the number of animals used in research!

Amazing isn't it?

Animal testing on the BBC website

Hello, viewers. While researching I came accross information from the BBC. If you want to view the website for yourself click here.

Today in the Metro!

Hello!
I found a news article in the Metro newspaper today related to animal testing today so thought I might give you the link....

http://www.metro.co.uk/news/845135-animal-rights-campaigners-threatened-and-bullied-public-into-donating-money

It's about animal testing campaigners threatening and bullying the general public to donate money.

I shared this with you, because I thought that if we are fighting for a good cause we should do it the right way, not by force. We should encourage people to join us, but not in a way in which people are being pressurised or forced to do it.

So please take a look at this article and reflect on yourself, make sure that you're not the one that's fighting for something right the wrong way!

Thankss,
Hamna x

Great Apes!

Well, I was again browsing around , and I found this article....If you don't want to read the whole thing, frankly all it says is that from 2013, all members of the European Parliament are prohibited from using great apes! I know! It may not seem like much...but you know what they say, a little goes a long way!  :D

Pictures!

Well, instead of loading you with links and websites, I though I'd just place some images instead, okay? To make life easier. For both you and me.

"In a vivisection animal research centre the monkeys eyelids have been sewn shut with thick thread. A sonar device strapped to his head emits a constant noise. The monkey is completely neurotic and suffering from fits."

"A monkey sitting in a restraining apparatus as part of the laser warfare programme. The head is also immobilised."

"A Rhesus monkey restrained in the primate equilibrium platform (PEP). The monkey is shown shortly after irradiation and has vomited several times. The vomit can be seen running down the left side of the platform.
Previously the animal has been trained to 'fly' the machine with powerful electronic shocks."

So cruel. I know. So...I guess I'll just leave you with that thought. Bye!  :)

Oh, and the images are from http://www.stopprimateanimaltesting.com .

Pro Animal Testing?

Well. Animal Testing. The pros. And the cons.

We all know the cons of Animal Testing, I mean...it's common sense. You're hurting animals.  But the pros? Well, that's quite obvious too. It helps us. Animal Testing has helped medical developments in the past decades. Yes, I admit that-without Animal Testing we wouldn't be anywhere.

But we don't exactly need Animal Testing, right? I mean, we live in the 21st CENTURY. And Animal Testing has existed for a really long time. And if so much has improved over time, then why does Animal Testing still exist? It should be History.

We live technically because of technology. So why can't that apply to animals too?

But I guess, in every circumstances, one should always look at the other point of view; a sign of maturity and to be un-biased. So that's what we'll do in this post.

There's this website called Pro Test for instance, which stands up for science and is against people who are against Animal Testing.

"We are an Oxford based group campaigning in favour of continued animal testing and in support of scientific research. we aim to dispel the irrational myths promoted by anti-vivisections and to encourage people to stand up for science and human progress."

The quote above is what is stated on their website (when I checked it today). Yes, I respect their aims and their choice. And yes, I do stand up for science. I do stand up for human progress. But to an extent of hurting animals and making them suffer unnecessarily? THAT is what I don't agree on. That is what our group doesn't agree on.

Here is a link of the Pro Test site that states the benefits of animal testing. Yes, I admit, the benefits are highly impressive. But we've got technology in our hands. Why not make use of that? But I guess everyone will have their reasons, just like we do.

Animal Love :)

Found this video. On OneKind. Again. And it's Ayunie. Again.

I think it's just so sweet! It makes you appreciate animals, doesn't it? Which is one of the main reasons we chose Animal Testing as our topic: to show that animals have rights too and should be loved, instead of being tortured all the time.

Article-OneKind

Found another article. On OneKind, an AMAZING website!

Well, that's all. For now. In a few minutes you'll probably see a new post popping up.
From me. Again.

The thing is, I'm the type of person who once makes up her mind, will stick do that decision and do the best I can. In this case, do the best I can to show the world how cruel animal testing is. That is the whole reason behind this Citizenship Activity anyway-why would we choose the topic, and show no sign of actually trying to contribute? Citizenship is about making change and contributing, no matter how much, to the community; and that's what we're trying to achieve.

-Ayunie

Animail!

Hello! Well, I was just browsing through websites...when I found this really interesting website, OneKind. And honestly, there are quite a lot of good stuff in there! Like there's this one campaign where all you do is send 'Animail' to people-it's an e-card that you can send to people, persuading them to donate just a little amount of money to OneKind to help animsl around the world.

That simple, and the change you can make!

I did it! Will you?

P.S - Click 'Animail' to go to the website. Just in case you didn't realise!  :)

Alternatives.

Hello!

So. What news do I have for you today? Well, below is an article I found, stating some animal testing alternatives. Yes, the text is quite 'university-like', but the main thing is to make people see that, yes, there are alternatives out there, that animal testing isn't actually needed. That's what our group is trying to get out to the world.

What Are Some Possible Alternatives to Animal Testing?

  1. Animal testing has been a controversial subject for many years. Animal rights activists argue that testing products and medical procedures on animals amounts  to animal abuse and is inexcusable. Many scientists counter that medical advancements would not have been possible if animal testing had not played a role. While some tests offer no alternatives to animal subjects, there have been numerous technological advancements that can minimize the use of live animals in scientific studies.

  2. Corrositex

  3. Corrositex is a synthetic skin membrane material that mimics live skin vulnerability so well that it can be used instead of animal skin in many corrosive studies. In the past, rabbits were tested to see if a certain chemical or procedure would burn, corrode or otherwise harm the animal's skin to avoid any possible damage to a human patient. The Corrositex negates that requirement and accurately determines whether a substance is safe for human contact on its own merits. It has replaced animal patients in many modern studies.

  4. Computer Modeling

  5. Computer modeling has become so advanced, it can simulate experiments with great accuracy and reduce the need to attempt the procedure on a living creature. A computer can analyze the chemical composition of a drug and then accurately predict its effects on a living body as it breaks down and interacts with natural body chemistry. The modeling then replaces the need to supply a live animal with the drug in a "see what happens" approach. Likewise, computer models can be used in educational settings, allowing students to dissect frogs and mice through a computer model instead of killing and cutting previously live subjects.

  6. Cell Cultures

  7. Cell cultures involve the study of a few cells from an animal's body under a microscope to examine the effect of a drug, chemical or disease. The cells can be treated and experimented on without any harm coming to the animal that donated the cells. Human tissue can sometimes be used for these culture tests. If an animal is required, a small scraping of cells is much less invasive or harmful than previous methods that would involve possible incisions and chemical exposure.

See? It may not seem so much, but a little goes a long way. And in my opinion, in a few years time so many other alternatives will be developed, right? We'll pray for the best.

DISGUSTING.

WARNING!

THE VIDEO BELOW HAS INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE, AND MAY CONTAIN SOME SCENES THAT MAY BE TOO MUCH FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED.

Yes. I'm really sorry! But this video just came out (PETA worked undercover at a lab and released this video a few days ago), and it really shows how cruelly animals in labs are treated. My advice is that you put it on mute so you don't hear anything, as there are subtitles from which you can read.

Many apologies!

So Which Is Which?

Well, it's Ayunie again! And today's FRIDAY! So happy the school week is over!  :DDDD

So. You guys now know what Animal Testing Is, right? Now all you have to do is stop using products that test on animals. I mean, it's the least you can do. Okay fine. The least you can do is nothing, but you get what I mean, right?  XP

Well you can easily search on web for companies that do and do not test on animals; typing in something like "Companies against Animal Testing" or "Companies that do not use Animal Testing"  should do the trick.

But her are a few websites that states both, so I just thought I'd list them here:

(In my opinion, this is the best out of the 3 websites...You get to search the companies that both DO and DO NOT test on animals, and it also provides easily printable versions of both)

Hope you'll look into them! And if you're just not bothered, just look at these pictures:

So I'm guessing you changed your mind?

See how CRUEL Animal Testing is? No matter how old and young you are, you can still make a change.
We all can.

All About Animal Tesing!

Hello! It's Ayunie again. I was just about to search for other interesting articles about animal testing when it just hit me. Many of you might not be aware what animal testing actually is? Yeah, sure we all know that it's when cosmetics and drugs are tested on animals, but I mean more into it. Like what actually happens. And what animals are being used. And also the reasons why animal testing occurs worldwide.

Here are a couple of websites talking more about animal testing:

AboutAnimalTesting.co.uk - The website states the pros and cons of Animal Testing, which is something that we should all look into before making any judgements. We looked through them, and we reached a conclusion that Animal Testing is to be banned (as you can see from our blog) - why use animals when we live in the 21ST CENTURY with all the marvellous technology all around us?

And here's another one! - This article is dated 2005, but it will still tell you about Animal Testing, as the definition of 'Animal Testing' will never change!

And last, but definitely not least! The world's most POPULAR online encyclopedia! None other than Wikipedia.

Well, that's all for now! Bye!  :D

Hello Again! :D

Hello! Well, our last post was on March 14th...and now it's the 5th of October! Well, our school academic year started about 4 weeks ago, so we're currently in Year 9. A year older!

Well, back to Animal Testing....As you would've realised, we haven't exactly been updating our blog, but not to worry! We'll be updating the blog at least ONCE every week by our honorary members with news articles, videos, and pictures about how animals are treated when they're tested on, and everything else related to Animal Testing! For today, I just found a quite interesting article on Animal Testing on BBC, here, look for yourself!

If you've forgotten who our honorary members are...CLICK HERE to go to a previous post, telling you all about them. Well, not all, just their names and jobs, but that's enough.

Well, I am off! And as we said, we WILL be updating you with information on Animal Testing, and things you can do to take action!

Goodbye for now!
